Noodletown
Have I mentioned my love for Asian food? Thought so.
Szechuan Gourmet used to be a 5 minute walk from my office in mid-town. On special lunch days, my best friend and work wife Leslie and I would order it to be delivered. I always ordered the Cold Sesame Noodles. She ordered the Dan Dan.
The cool nutty, slinky noodles, combined with fiery Szechuan pepper corns are still my favorite. Pass me a cold beer and I'm in a state of bliss. Nowadays, we go out for this food when I'm down visiting, but when nothing else will do, I conjure up my own.
Spring garlic is waving farewell, so I used the last bulbs to make a chili oil with crushed pepper flakes and sesame. I tossed the egg noodles with tahini, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar and a punch of sugar and stirred in lots of that oil.
You guess it. Pure joy.
